metronome disappearing/stuttering/going crazy

hi guys; since a while, my metronome has gone crazy. i have set it to "enable during recording" and have 2 bars count in, as usual. however, if i hit "record", the metronome clicks do not start right from the beginning (as it should and used to be), but only AFTER the precount, with a more or less severe delay and sometimes stuttering, when the actual recording has already been started. and sometimes not even then. often, the metronome click suddenly disappears and then reappears, very inconsistently, the only thing that always is the same is that it never does start right from start, but with a lag that makes it impossible to really record anything. i have no external sync enabled, and it also happens if i disconnect all my audio- and midi interfaces. cubase with the same setup works flawlessly. i browsed several times through the project prefs but could not find any paramter that seemed to affect the metronome. also reinstalling reaper did not help, now i'm quite clueless about what to do, so i would be very glad for some help! thank you very much! cheers oxy

thanks for responding steindork! i will check tonight; if this is really the reason (as far as i remember no synthedit plugs in the project, but maybe (un)checking this box nevertheless helps) i owe you hundred bucks or at least a big virtual hug! :-) cheers oxy

if i were not already red due to too much sun exposure, i'd definitely turn red now because of being ashamed: the reason for the strange metronome behaviour obviously was that i accidentally disabled the midi output of the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth.. i don't know why it nevertheless works some but not other times; but anyway, its fine now. thanks again and cheers oxy
