I got that amazon portfolio book thing recently, and I've read the first few articles which are reviews of the amazon when it came out. I'm sure they mentioned self parking wipers as a feature. Mine do anyway. Most of the time. (on a 68) edit - just went and checked. From the 'winter motoring with the Volvo 122S' article: "All these knobs are within easy reach of the driver, and just below the facia his left hand falls easily to a tiny turn switch that controls the really efficient two-speed, self-parking Bosch wipers" Love the way they wrote back then!
If they stop immediately you turn off the switch and don't self park then I think its the cam in the wiper mechanism that has worn out. don't know about an Amazon but in an 1800 its a b*****d of a job to replce the wiper mechanism.
although it shouldnt have an effect, make sure all your connections are good to the wiper motor and switch, for soem reason a bad connection (maybe ground?) made the wipers on my last car not self park
have a look at the wiring on the motor there is one wire that controles the parking it may have come loose

the wipers should self park, if they dont then check that there is power to the 2 terminals , they are sometimes double fused or/and double relayed, mine used to run on, the third (normaly green) wire is actualy grounded when the switch is in the stop position, this earthing stops the cam from running over to the powered contact and setting the wipers off again, volvo make the switch and its not found on much else so is expensive so i fitted a "grounding switch"
