I've been reading this morning and late last night theres alot of poeple complaining about 002 and its lack of features. Lets keep it real the reason all of us are buying 001's and will buy 002's is because we r not in the financial position to buy and HD or TDM system. Digi does keep us somewwhat competive with features similar to their competition but again we r using by far the best editing and platflorm and what is widely regarded as the industry standard at a cut price and lets us in the game with big boys. hey digi would be foolish to give us everything that a HD or TDM unit would have with less tracks. hey its a freemarket world and their object is to sell the high end systems. i think the 002 looks great and appears promising and since there will be an upgrade of osX and more tracks for 001 it will satisfy those who have no need for a control surface and 96k. id love more power and smpte and beat detective and surround.....oh i guess ill have to get a HD system then dual 450 g4 001 x-project 512 ram Mackie HUI DBX 386 dual tube digital mic pre
Just to complete my thought, i personally cant wait to get into the 96k world everysince i bought my masterlink over two years ago. hey the converters might not be the best However it is a jump up and im looking foward to it.....also being able to take the 002 out with my ibook for portability's sake is awesome!!! ever tried taking ur g4 tower to another studio.....not fun Im just saying thanks Digi heres a user that will appreciate the 002 great job!!!!
Just for the record. I have been a Pro Tools user professionally for about five years. I have worked on many records with both Pro Tools (TDM and LE) and Digital Performer. I would rather use Pro Tools by far. I use it everyday and I love the editing flexabilty. What really bothers me is the fact that Digi knows that they are the biggest game in town. They know that releasing the 002 with 96k will create more incompatablity issues in the industry and force more studios to update to a HD system. If you haven't noticed, the record business is in the middle of a major recession. Studios shouldn't be forced to re-buy expensive hardware simply because Digi thinks they should. Certainly you can't argue with there market savy. Digi knows how to make money. My point is that too many of us just take what digi gives us to swallow and I think that sucks. Like Rage Against the Machine says "Lets take the power back!" Face it, $2000 is not cheap! Why would I want to pay that much to continue being a low priority in Digi's world? I saw a 002 yesterday and talked to a Digi employee about SMPTE and his response was for me to purchase their new synch box which is like $2000 by its self! You must be joking. SMPTE is a feature that any other platform comes with standard at far less the cost of a Digi 002. That is not very cool. If you guys are content with being ripped off and treated like a reject just because you can't afford a HD system then that's cool. I for one feel compelled to challenge this system in the only way really possible, to complain on a forum that someone from digi might actually read. I only do this because I have hope. I hope that one day Digi will design there systems not to restrict us with track count and i/o just to make us spend more money. I have hope that one day Digi will put all of the features that many of the users that write into these posts have asked for. I can see where the Digi 002 maybe very cool for some people but it really doesn't address any of my needs. I love working on this platform and don't want to have to change. Bring on the cheerleaders! Peace and Love
If you really need all those 40+ tracks, surround, extremely complex MIDI implementation in your sequencer and SMPTE it's because you are getting a lot of well paid projects or because you work with Trent Reznor and you want to take your work to your home. Either way, the money you earn will give you the ability to buy a TDM or HD system which is what the pros use. If you need expensive equipment is because you are getting equally paying jobs. Also, I don't really think that if you are musician that records at home you will see a scenario where you'll need all those features. It's more a caprice that you still want to use LE systems for bigger jobs.
Cayugalad said it best. I am so sick of the whining. I also read up in here that if you want surround you have to use a TDM or some other hardware or software system. This is not true because the 001 can do both, not as nice as the others with plug-ins to do surround mixing but I have been doing both Pro Logic and Dolby Digital all in the confines of Pro Tools LE. If anybody wants to know I posted it about two weeks ago in the LE windows side because someone inquired about it - Do a search for Surround Mixing and you will find it, I hate seeing the disinformation about surround on the 001.
i just finished a 10 song recording gig with one of the newcomers in the swedish hardcore/metal genre - all done with the LE system. i can honestly say, and i've recorded stuff over the last 8yrs or so, that it's FREAKING AMAZING what kind of quality you can squeeze out of the (GBP 793,33-VAT) I paid for the digibox - if you're careful about all the other concerns when recording (ie miking, mics, whatnot). Digidesign is doing an tremendeous job to cover, not only the pro side of the audio biz, but also the semi-pro side. this is not to be forgotten. just my 3 cents...
