I had the same problem when doing exactly the same thing, and the problem happened exactly at the same 855 position. Can somebody help?

i wonder if it is hitting in the max bitrate... dont think so, but to make sure please make a test with only 2 streams of subs and reply back ( never had this prob and i use 4 streams ;) ) whitch version of winsubmux are you using ? , it should be the same provided in the bundle .

What did you mean by 2 streams? Which part did you refer to? I used the bundled in 1.09 build 3 so I supposed it was the one everybody else was using. Thanks for your reply. PS. If you meant how many languages I tried to do the subtitles, I only did English nothing else.

Upgrade to the latest version of dvd2svcd see if that fixed your prob.

Well, I upgraded, and this time the operation seemed to finish successfully. However, when I play the video in Power DVD XP, there are no subtitles displayed, and I don't seem to be able to select them, the option is greyed out. And strangely, I have 4 CD images, but the second two appear to be duplicates of the first. They are in fact, slightly different in file size though. Does PowerDVD have issues with subtitles on SVCD?

Q&A: No known software players support neither SVCD nor CVD subtitles.
