Noobie alert! T5R Question.

Afternoon guys. I'll front up and tell you that I'm a traitor. I'm actually a FWD Ford man and my quest for more power has seen me at a point where I am smashing gearboxes at an alarming rate. Someone has told me that the 850 T5R has a rather strong gearbox and I am considering retro-fitting one. I realise that this is a big 'ask', but if any of you guys have any input, I would be eternally grateful.:lightbulb:

i believe the 850r manual box is the one to get hold of as it had a LSD fitted as standard i have a feeling the differences in the lettering H & L is down to the ratio's

RE: Noobie alert! T5R Question.

The 850R and S70R manual gearboxes have an LSD, it's a viscous coupling LSD. If owners want to retrofit any mechanical LSD it cannot be done with the R gearbox. I have heard that a diesel clutch is stronger than the petrol in the case of 850s/V70s/S70s - Don Norchi is the man to speak to as he has considerable experience with gearboxes, racing his cars in the Brit Car Series.

LOL. It's not a Focus ST!! Not quite so posh, I'm afraid. It's an old Escort RS Turbo (1989) sporting the original 1600cc 8-Valve engine. It is currently around 350bhp/310lbft and gearboxes are becoming a disposable item. I am interested in gear ratios too, this car was built largely for runway top speed events. Thanks for your help so far guys.
