You should definitely be running OS 9.2, it's very stable. The other question, though, is will your computer support it? You can't run it on a 9600. Lee Blaske

RE: OS 9 - 9.2 upgrade

I'm running 9.2.2 on a 9600/G3-400/d24 without any problems. I haven't noticed any real advantages from 9.1 though. At least for Pro Tools. If you need to run 9.2 on an older unsupported mac goto:

RE: OS 9 - 9.2 upgrade

Our G4 450 works fine on 9.2.2 but the ride to get there was a bit rough. Get as much documentation from apple site as some G4 need a firmware upgrade, something not as simple as it seems. The Appian card on our system just wouldn't allow it to happen, had to put back the old ATI for the firmware upgrade utility to work. Also 9.2.2 has a whole bunch of new extensions, notably those relating to CD burning, that can conflict with others. Best thing is to do a total system backup and have a good bootable CD at hand To sum it up don't do that at 11PM if you have a session next morning...

RE: OS 9 - 9.2 upgrade

Funnily enough, I just upgraded my Blue & Whilte G3 with PT mix3 from 9.0.4 to 9.2.2 this last weekend. I just did a standard upgrade install (not a clean install ie new system folder), and everything seems to be working without a hitch. The one weirdness was that Jam and Toast could no longer write to my LaCie CD burner. The solution turned out to be simply opening silverlining and setting the driver for the CD burner to "Toast" rather than "Automatic". I was a bit nervous about it, but it turned out to be unproblematic. Cheers, Mark

I upgraded from 9.0.4 to 9.1 without a hitch several months ago. I thought you had to go through the upgrade first to 9.1 in order to get to 9.2.2, so I haven't upgraded to 9.2.2 yet.

A problem I saw recently with a mate's system was going from 9 to 9.1. His whole system screwed up wouldnt boot etc. It was third party ram not being recognised. He took it all out and there were no problems. If you have any 'wierd' ram, you may need to change it. Still it's hardly expensive these days is it. J

Ditto with a G4 400. Running HD2 on 9.2.2. We were just commenting last night on how we have had a session open for 8 days, 4 people working on it around the clock.... not a single crash or blip. Not to mention the 9.2.2 firewire drivers are killer too.
