in all my years of experiencing crashes in ableton i have never lost any work. First time reaper crashes on me I am greeted with an empty project and then the knowledge that I have lost aload of work and that I got to setup my preferences to save a new backup file every 5-10 mins.

overwriting the main prject file with the backup file doesnt seem to work either
