My head hurts!

I live in the San Fernando Valley in CA. I need to get my system configured properly, up and running! Does anyone know of someone or a company that specializes in wiring and setting up all your gear that may be able to help me? I'd rather pay the money and get everything up right than waste time screwin' stuff up. I need to be creative, that's my thing right now and i've got a splitting headache trying to do it all myself. I just want my system to be based around my Digi 001 and any other software programs that I may use. Am I asking too much? Any help is HIGHLY appreciated! Thanks! Hypekeez

RE: My head hurts!

You should have your Digidesign dealer do it. When we got our TDM system at work, our engineer recommended that the Digidesign dealer we bought our system from install, configure and test the system. It was going to cost 250 dollars or 500 dollars for a full-day, on-site visit. When I bought my 001 system, I was offered the same deal. But by that time I was familiar enough with computers and Pro Tools that I opted to do it myself. Still, there would actually be a large number of experienced professionals who would tell you that time was money and they'd rather be sure the system was set up right than be fighting technical battles and losing hours of studio time later. And I'm talking about some very technically adept people here who could unquestionably do it themselves but feel a couple hundred bucks to get the job done right (and have someone local to call if there are problems) is simply the smarter, more logical and professional way to proceed.

RE: My head hurts!

Just a quick plug for the local guys up here in Vancouver Canada who put together my 001. There are three places in town that sell the 001 but I went with ANNEX Pro because they would put together a custom mac install and test the software and stand behind their work The only dowside is that they are not open on weekends as they mainly deal with the pro market. I have had a couple of problems one which they fixed over the phone, two otheres meant dragging the g4 dowtown. I was in and out in an hour. My advice is like the above, if you are not a mac whiz, find a store that will put together a turnkey system for you. The extra few bucks you pay (I paid 80 bucks for installation and 1 hour orientation) will be soon forgotten when your making music. Also if you get it all from one place you don't have to deal with the pass the buck mentality of many retailers So far so good

Try calling Audio Affects in Burbank. I don't know if they do it themselves, but I'm sure they could recommend someone competent as they also rent PT/TDM systems. S.I.R. (Studio Equipment Rentals) in Hollywood might be another place to try - just get past the receptionist to someone who might know. They're both pro audio rental shops for most of the major studios (and SIR does a lot of live venues, too) in town.
