Hi, I had a PC specifically built for music production back in September & have had it running since the end of October. I'm using Reaper as my only DAW, and the PC is only used for music, exceptions being uploading/downloading files. When I walk away from the PC for 10 minutes or so & come back to it, I'll hit play & get an audible 'click' with a flashing red transport bar, (the part that displays time/measures.) This has been going on since day one. Visually, the machine freezes, yet the audio still plays. Actually, occasionally the audio freezes too but it's mostly only the click & red bar. This really only happens when the song has a lot of plug ins going on. Here's how my drives are set up- C Drive- Program files. D Drive- Samples. E Drive- Audio/Reaper files. G ext Drive- Backup Drive. H ext Drive- A Backup Drive for one client. I had a tech look at it & he's convinced that the issue is with these particular hard drives & that they go into an energy saving mode when it's not in use continuously. Does this make sense? If so, I can live with it. I'm more concerned that there's something seriously wrong that's been overlooked. He installed Hard Disk Sentinel & the drives are showing 100%, except for E Drive which is showing 99%. Again, he checked everything & thinks I have nothing to worry about, yet I am. The other issue was regarding my backups. I HAD Acronis home version installed, and I couldn't get it to properly do incremental backups. It was backing up the whole drive every time & sometimes not working at all. It would freeze & not recognize the backup drive & when I restarted the PC, the E Drive was not recognized. I did remove the program though, & the tech installed TeraByte Unlimited, which seems to be doing the job now. However, I have to do the backups manually. The reason I included my previous backup problem was because both issues seem to point at E Drive. As a side note- I had this built by NCIX in Markham, Ontario. The FIRST one they built to these specs didn't work at all. They fixed it, sent it back & it had actual physical damage. They said to bring it back in & they would replace the broken parts. After a lot of arguing & finally legal threats, they just built a 2nd one for me. It's a long story, with many lies & promises from their end, but the bottom line is that I experienced the worst customer service I've ever had. Hence paying someone to come & look at it rather than take it back to them, even though it's all still under warranty. Their techs are questionable at best, and I wouldn't trust them to accidentally wipe all of the drives if I did send it back. I filled out their "How did we do?" card, telling them the whole documented story & I never heard anything back.
