My setup was a G4 400 desktop running OS9 with 256mb, two 9GB scsi drives and a 001. Working on some great projects with 20+ tracks and a wack of good plugins. I was barely taxing my system. Now I have a G4 550 powerbook running OSX Panther, with 512mb, a Lacie 120 d2, and an mbox. Same project's with no plugins and I can't record more than one minute of new audio...The project are dead in their tracks. What is wrong, I only wanted the same power. Where's my weak link?

Try OS 9 ... OS X would take much more resources than you'd expect .

the software is a little more bloated and processor intense but it may be your lacie. It is possible it is defective. I have heard of the lacies giving people trouble. Do a search.
