today i pulled on my g4 move it towards me a little and the power cord got pulled out from the back of the machine. when i powered back up it couldnt find an os. i boot from cd, my system drive is gone (thank god it wasnt my audio drive). i reboot a few times to make sure its not a fluke, still nothing. i connect my second drive to the dead drive's ide cable and power. it works. i connect the dead drive to second drive's ide and power and it doesn't work. would pulling the power out from the machine fry a hard drive? has this happened to any of you before? is there any trick i can try to bring it back to life? thanks for your help.

RE: r.i.p. my hard drive?

1: Boot from the install CD and run disk first aid. 2: (If you have it) run DiskWarrior and Chaos Manager from the Mac Care Unit utlities package. 3: Boot from disc and run drive set-up. Initialize the drive. This will completely wipe the drive and you will lose all info on it, but if you can initialize the drive it will once again be usable. Hope this is helpful.

RE: r.i.p. my hard drive?

Before you abandon the drive completely I suggest you try using 'Data Rescue 3.0' on it. This software is available from... You could download the demo to see if it can see any of the files. I had a drive fail miserably and none of my usual drive maintenance programs could see it or mount it...including Norton-Techtool-DiskWarrior-FWB etc etc. It looked as if it were destined for the garbage bin until I tried Data Rescue. I was able to recover 99.8% of every file on the drive and after repairing I was able to reformat the drive and could have used it but I did in the interest of prudence trash the drive anyway. It was long over it's due dat anyway. The main thing is that Data recue completely saved my day on this one. worth a shot Kevan
