splitting channels in MIDI with Reaper

I'm pretty clueless in the ways of MIDI and I have what I hope is a simple question. Midi files that I open in NTrack automatically separate into different channels (tracks), so I can for instance mute all but the drum track and practice along with just drums. I can also delete all the other tracks and export just the drum track. This might be very helpful for a quick way to crate drum tracks for new songs, built around grooves that I like. (I just started a different thread asking if these drum grooves can be uploaded into the alesis sr-16) In Reaper, at least in the default settings, the whole song opens up in one track. Is there a quick way to set up Reaper to separate the channels upon opening the file? If not, I suppose I'll just use ntrack for that.
