The info centre is more than just what you see scrolling through the options. It tells you when a bulb is out- and which one, tell you fault codes, SMS text messages if you have the inbuilt communication centre and much more. to check how accurate the MPG gauge is - perform a comparison. Reset it the MPG gauge Reset the TRIP Fill the tank to the brim. Drive around until near empty so it's mixed driving. Fill her to the brim again. note the TRIP reading. now you know how many miles you've done since the last fillup, and you also know exactly how many litres of fuel you used. Take the litres, mutiple by 0.206 to turn it into gallons. Divde the number of miles by # gallons, now you've got the true MPG. Compare this against the info centre and you'll have the accuracy. Repeat a few times for a good average. vipes
didn't even know it displays sms messages. The inbuilt phone system is such a pain to use, I never use it. Stick to the wired hands free with my nokia or just switch off the phone. Last time tried to use it, was put off by its user friendliness.
--------------------------- From Codeman in the picture rating thread:
The miles to empty is pretty accurate IME, I get it down to less than 3 dashes quite a lot, I'm that comfortable using it. As far as average mpg is concerned I think it's 10% out - it over reads in my experience. Had to change my headlamp bulbs the other day - the info centre told mne as soon as I turned the car on, stopped at a motor factors 2 minutes later to buy a new one, no waiting until dark to find out your lights gone :)
I've had it down to one dash before - the car gives a polite cough to let you know you're not going much further if you don't fill up!

Shame about all the crud that got sucked up though, that's what the cough will be! not as bad as things used to be - but it's best not to let the fuel tank run low, especially in winter, condensation forms on the inside, and this eats away at the metal, and then you have sediment, this ends up in the fuel lines and clogs the filter. aagh - the clever bit though is that it took 47 litres to fill up, meaning there were 5 litres left in the tank - the 'cough' lets you know you've hit the real reserve so fill up or get the crud sucked up :D
