I've tried searching the newsgroup on optimizing a G4 for Pro Tools but can't come up with anything. This is the first time I've used a G4 with a digi 001. With a PC I know the many optimizations one can do to the computer to get it running best for audio. My question is what optimizations can I do with my G4 to get it running the best? I have a G4 733 Graphite with 512 MB RAM, 1 40 gig 7200 RPM drive and 1 60 gig 7200 RPM drive. Thanks in advance. Ken
Last year, I also switched over from PC to a G4 (Quicksilver 733). For optimizing your G4, your manuel has most all of the steps necessary. After installation, go to Mac help & find out how to allocate more memory for Protools. This is very important, the default is simply not enough. Enjoy your Mac!
hey, go to the digi answerbase and type in a search for "G4 settings mac" and you will find a list that will guide you through the process. Good luck Cigam
Other than allocating more ram to PT, we did nothing to our G-4, and it runs PT with no problems. You do NOT need to remove OSX or disable a second processor (if you have one), PT will run fine with both onboard. The secret is a boatload of ram. Hope this is helpful.
... you also need to set your memory cache. (I believe to 512). Check your manual, as that's a crucial step as well. There are really only a couple of steps, but they're important. Other than that, sounds like you have a killer machine. It'll run just fine. popps
Boat: a hole in the water surrounded by wood into which one pours money. Sounds like computers doesnt it? computer: an object sitting in a studio surrounded by gear into which one pours money. Pack that thing with as much RAM as it will hold.
