I stopped using Cubase and sonar long ago, and I can't remember how they work anyway. What I'm wondering is if I wanted to make the same chain I use in REAPER for someone that uses Cubendo - or Sonar (or other popular daw) what steps would I have to take. I'm assuming I would have to build them within the other daw and save them for that daw. There wouldn't be any way to port them I suppose. In fact I don't remember saving chains in anything else - they just got saved with the project.
You'd probably have to build them directly in the other DAW although Cubase uses xml for that and it would be near impossible to create one from scratch in the *.vstpreset xml format. Easiest way is just to write down the settings or do screen captures of the settings and send the pictures. I think they all handle plugin chains these days though but there is no universal format. That would make for a neat extension, an extension that would read through a track and print plugins and their settings as plain text.
I hope this is not to stupid: there are a couple of free vst hosts over at kvr. Links to some: I'm not sure of how they work, but I belive that they themselves are vst-plugs that you load with a chain of plugs. Then you can save the chains in the vst-host format. (I think) Perhaps this is a bit clumsy, but it is one way to make cross over chains. Me myself being a bear with a very small brain this is the only thing I could figure out. I my dreams though, The coming ABG G-spot would have a great compressor, and some "....reverb or spatial effects" that would make this whole issue redundant. In a couple of weeks or so. I must say that I've thought a lot about the pity of your chains just being for the Reaperoids. I mean just because people don't get it, they could get happy from great guitar sounds never the less. I mean we are still a minority on the margin. If people come to your site though, nothing can hinder you from enlighting them. With great moral support for your project Peace Lade

AFAIK those VST chainers won't report PDC correctly, if at all, so they're pretty useless most of the time. The new DDMF plugin could be the way (since it's the only one that's actively supported/developed), if the developer finds a way to implement proper PDC reporting...

I took a chance and opted to purchase Presonus' Studio One and was pleasantly surprised by it. One of the best features it has is the way it uses effects. The drag and drop features are very fleshed out to include a really great way to utilize chains. You can save them as well. It's a fantastic implementation of the idea. Reaper could learn a thing or two from it.
