The 'secret' of polyphonic pitch detection revealed!

Pitch - did you already try out the melodyne feature? I somehow was not surprised by it. I rather worked with single lines first, as it was messy from time to time. It of course depends what you were recording. If you recorded everything on a stereo track there is just no plugin that would help you to do good corrections. However I tried with 8 (!!!) tracks, inserted on each an automated Reatune and the result was like with Melodyne quite ok (to many tracks - I saw it handles 4 tracks at a time quite well). So we already have a polyphonic tuner!

I tried the methods described by PSlap and Hopi as well. I have been trying various boastings from several different developers and it hasn't worked at all. Honestyly I am kind of glad, as I have woodshedded Keith Emerson Organ and Piano solos since he was a childhood idol, and finally after 30+ years I have them dialed in. I sure would have loved to have these back when I was using hardware sequencers. But I would rather see others suffer as I did...............just kiddin'. I would still love to have software that can listen to Piano solos and convert to MIDI files. Quantizing after the fact isn't necessary as I am sure it would ruin most recordings, but having such a tool would be awesome.

I would also love inhouse audio to midi. Tried out DNA for excactly that purpose, playing guitar and turning into midi, but it didn't work to well. Don't really want to invest in a midi-guitar setup :P

Sorry, but the original poster's idea is just too naive to really work. If it was this simple, and it is not, well working polyphonic pitch detection and manipulation would now be a commonly available tool, even in free/low cost software.

Yep, the bigger problem is how to find out which frequencies are belonging to each other as harmonics and which represent a "real" note. Melodyne tries to do that, but still often fails and in most cases needs a lot of help from the user.

Pitch detection, yes, but not to the point of identifying which is the note and which is the overtone. It simply grabs the n loudest frequencies and uses those as the basis for creating the "spooky oo-ee-oo" noises. :) What schwa has done with Tin Man is great, but it's still a way off from what's being posited here.
