when I run video I get molasses

when I try to run quicktime video along with audio in Protools (both le + TDM) everything turns to molasses (bogged down). I know I must be doing something wrong but can't quite find the answer in manuals. I don't believe it's a ram issue as protools is not using all that I have dedicated to it. any enlightening thoughts from any of you nice people in the know?

RE: when I run video I get molasses

I wasn't using compression. I saved them as quicktime files in Finalcut pro. When I import them into protools it works with a few tracks but if you get more than a few tracks everything literaly bogs down and it takes forever for anything to work. If you disable the video everything works fine. I have PTle 5.1 on a g4 350 w/ 320 ram as well as a nubus expansion chassis full of cards for 48 track tdm on a 7100 w/ newetech g3 240, 120 mg ram. The same thing is happeninng on both computers so I was thinking I must have something configured wrong, but perhaps these cpu's are just too slow for this?

Mr T you rock! I tried hiding the window and it helped a little, but when I compressed the video it made a big difference. I used a clip about 5 1/2 min long with 23 tracks playing, not too many plugs. It didn't make any noticable difference if the buffer was set to 512 or 128. (native g4 001 of course). I haven't tried it on the tdm sys but it definately improved it big time on the native. Thanks a lot for your tips. Cheers, Tex

RE: when I run video I get molasses

hey MR T, I had a similar video problem. I brought some rendered footage form work (DV) home to lay some audio and FX in with PTLE. Everything worked well, I imported the video ( from iMove, which was fine for this project) into PTLE, window shows up , everythings good, i lay my tracks out, get my "mix". The trouble comes when bouncing to disk. The whole thing is slowed down. I thought it might be the 44/48 thing, but I couldnt figure it out. any tips? Would 44 audio play back slower in quicktime than 48? IS 48 the standard for even QT ( I do have the pro version). it was a fun project, I stitting there going "I'm making commercials, sweet"

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:<HR>"I tried hiding the window and it helped a little" <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Assuming you mean you've hidden the Movie Track not the Movie Window (it would be hard to work on a movie without the movie being displayed...), I'm glad it could help. Kama., I've never experienced that kind of behaviour myself but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with movie (session set up?24-25-30 fr/sec.?...). What do you mean by "slowed down"->is it playing slow (like it's been pitched) or does it sound like it's playing OK but slowly desynchronizing (sliding) with picture?
