Henry, If you are getting a 10MB/sec transfer rate in the MacBench test using your drive, you should be able to get 24 tracks at 24 bit without a problem. However, I thought 10MB/sec was the theoretical max speed of the internal SCSI 2 on a beige G3? Sometimes actual throughput is quite a bit less... In theory you need .125MB/sec per track of 24 bit audio. So 10 tracks would require 1.25MB/sec, etc. Simulataneously reading and writing can slow things a bit too. A crude test that I've done which seems to be a good predictor of real life throughput is to take a large file (like 50MB) and select the "duplicate" command. Time the duplication with a stopwatch. (For example, a 50MB file that takes 5 secs to duplicate would calculate to 10MB/sec). Good luck, Jeff D.
