:hissyfit: Driving a V70 T5 and the front offside brake squeals at low speed.Drives me mad, there are no shims on the front brakes, i presume this is the problem. I have been to Halfords and looked at there kits but they have no shims in them. Anyone know if this is the problem and if they do shims for the front brakes.

RE: Squeeeeeeling brakes

Shims and/or copper grease on the reverse of the pads should sort it. Jack

RE: Squeeeeeeling brakes

It's a common problem, usually exacerbated by use of non-Volvo pads. Some have made their own shims up - I seem to recall a post on here where someone cut some from a steel can. Otherwise copious amounts of copper grease may help.

RE: Squeeeeeeling brakes

I recently changed all of the discs and pads on my V70 using Mintex replacements and haven't had a single squeal since. The Mintex pads come with an anti-squeal material moulded onto the back. Prior to the change, the brakes were getting very squeally - and were also worn. The noisiest was the driver's side rear and these pads were also the most worn of the lot (incidentally, the old pads also had anti-squeal material on them). Based on that, it would seem that excessive brake squeal probably indicates wear, so if your brakes are noisy it's probably time to get them changed.
