Hi all. I didnt know where and if i should put my question here but i am sure some of you guys might be able to help. Can someone tell me HOW the 6.1 channels (DD & DTS) are encoded? Is there any software like the surecode or the AC3 encoder of Scenarist or there is a hardware for that? And if you know i would be more than gratefull if u could tell me what is it. Thanx guys!

if you are talking about Dolby Digital Surround EX and DTS-ES, then they are physically 5.1 streams, the centre rear is matrix encoded into the Ls and Rs. see the DVD FAW on dvddemystified.com for more info. if you mean 6.1 discrete channels, then yes, it is an app like surecode, but specifically supporting the newer variants of DD and DTS. About the dts ES... I haven't found any software able to do dts 6.1 discrete or dts 96/24. Someone know the exact name of this software? Minnetonka SurCode support max 5.1 dts. And about the "decoder"... is there a software able to output 7 mono waves? (6.1). It could be helpful to "downrate" the bitrate from 1536 Kbps to 768 Kbps. WinDVD Platinum can output only 6 waves.
The thing that I would like to do is: You have a 6.1 channel dts file at 1536 Kbps and you want to "downrate" the file to a 6.1 dts at 768 Kbps. You can use Azidts (requires WinDVD Platinum) to extract 6 mono waves... but this is ok with a 5.1 channel file. In case of 6.1 channel, WinDVD "lose" 1 channel. With 6 (or 7) mono waves you can use SurCode to re-encoding the file in a new dts with half bitrate. SurCode suppport 5.1 max.

auenf, how can I know whether its a descrete or matrix encoded DTS? Or If I see the specification ENGLISH: DTS ES 6.1 it should always mean that it is a matrix encoded surround center? To give you a real example of a movie is It's Blade Trinity Unrated that I'm intersted in. Thanx in advance

srfscenar, as far as I understood we can use BeSweet+azidts and get 6 mono waves from DTS 6.1 matrix encoded without any loss of channels. Then we should use Surcode to get DTS track, but 5.1 also without any loss. I guess so.;)
Ok for the DTS. But what about the Dolby Digital EX??? If you already have the 6 mono Wav's which program would you use to create the DD EX file in AC3 format?
I think that the situation with Dolby Digital is the same. I use Scenarist's NT AC3Encoder or Sony Vegas with built-in AC3 Encoder. But I think the resulting file won't be EX - just common 5.1 but without any sound missed. That's just my guess. I haven't tested 6.1 matrixed to 5.1 yet. According to auenf's post that 6.1 matrixed is physically 5.1 we are not going to miss any sound.
Dolby Digital EX is only matricial so there are 6 separated mono waves. When you do a Dolby EX the encoder "flag" the AC3 so the decoder knows that need to "create" one channel using psycoacoustic filters. dts ES can be matricial or discrete. In case of matricial the basics are the same as Dolby EX. In discrete there are 7 separated channels so a discrete encoder is required. ATM windows based software dts encoders are only capabable of 5.1 sounds.
