Pre-FX Send design flaw: VSTi (synth) treated as FX

what I'd like to see is a line appear in the FX chain that indicates the pre-fx point. drag the line to indicate from where in the chain, pre-fx will send from on that track. thus you can have: js midi transformer VSTi Synth - Pre-FX point - eq comp I think the benefits are obvious, and not jsut for use with instruments. .t

so, the "solution" I provided is not dead easy? The "Pre-FX Point" to me is more confusing. But whatever, I must be retarded :) I also like the extra dropdown choices in the routing window.

I am not sure this is a bug at all. These are not FX, but Insert Points in general...Pre or Post is only where you put them. This is more of a Feature Request to have an area for FX (Post Instruments) and an area for Instruments (Pre FX).

cockos and reaper are smart enough to make the pre-FX-point default to after the vsti(s) in the chain. it represents the most flexible way to gain control and reduce track bloat. and not just for VSTis, but you could, thus, send signals post eq but pre compressor. yummy .t

meh, i like it as-is. i can have chains like this on a single track: VSTi EQ MIDI transpose -12 ANOTHER VSTi EQ Compressor Delay if anyone changes the current system, i'll get very angry, i use this sort of thing everywhere for layering.
RE: Pre-FX Send design flaw: VSTi (synth) treated as FX
(can someone correct me if i'm wrong here?) conceptually, i'm pretty sure both VSTs and VSTis both accept and send MIDI and audio. the difference is semantic only. i.e. gsnap is a VST fx that accepts audio to tune AND midi data for tuning info. one of the things i like about reaper is that it doesn't really get in the way here - midi and audio fly around in parallel everywhere, and It Just Works. if you really need a post-vsti, pre-fx thing, stick a rea-eq in, disable all the bands and put an automation on the overall gain. takes 10 seconds.

oops, misunderstood that aspect of the request. in any case - at some point, we'll probably end up with nested folders. when we get that, you could just put your vsti in a child folder, route from that to multiple places.
