Music XPC Computers?

Anyone using one of these? My trust G4, 400mhz is acting up and I am considering replacing it with a PC. This would allow me to keep using my Digi 001 until I finally upgrade to a 002r (or whatever might replace the mBox). Time constraints really make building my own PC too much of a pain and the Music XPC units don't seem too over priced for what they offer. My only concern is if they are reliable and back up their products.

RE: Music XPC Computers?

I have a Music XPC C2 and It is great. I don't know how much of the noise issues they resolved with this Rev, but it is quiet. I have absolutely no complaints about it. I'm a test engineer by trade, so when I got it, of course I tested her out. I loaded it up in Pro-Tools with 32 tracks of 24 bit stereo tracks, ran a few plug ins, and the CPU was somewhere like 40% capacity. I've pushed it pretty hard with no tracks and lots of plugins. I think i finally got it up there with (reason, sampletank, amplitube, Tracks, just about all the plug ins I could run). Probably took 20 of these plugins running in real time to clip the CPU. Tight little package, too.

If you know your way around computers, you can build your own and get much more bang for your buck. I looked at the XPCs, but I ended up building my own around a Shuttle SB65G2. (XPCs are basically souped-up Shuttles). I got twice the RAM they offered as well as much larger HDs, and other amenities for about the same price. You can do all the tweaks yourself, using the list posted here on the DUC. Good Luck!
