Hello all. Is there a vocal software that will let you type in vocal phrases and words into a piano roll for the desired pitch and timing to create main vocal lines? Thanks.

yamaha's vocaloid might be close to your needs. it does generates vocals, but at this point it cannot replace real singers!

There is a program called Virtual Singer which many people have praised. It is produced by Myriad () and they also produce basic notation software. I expect the vocal line might sound rather synthetic but I have not actually tried the program. I don't think it is very expensive and it might be worth trying out.

Darn kids these days don't know how good they got it! In my day, we'd have to sing for our supper, and we'd like it!!!! (Hmmmm... Synthetic vocals, interesting idea.)

Slightly off topic, and I apologize in advance to the OP, but is there a program out there that will generate guitar riffs that will lead to a complete song? I am really getting sick and tired of having to come up with an idea every time I want to plug lyrics into a program when recording a song. Thanks in advance.

I've done something like this using a free program called DSpeech. Most of the free voices that are a little hard to understand, but there are a couple free ones that are pretty good if you can find ones that use the SAPI5 standard. The problem with repitching these is that they aren't completely monotone, so shifting them via midi doesn't keep them in tune. I used a vocoder to have it carry a tune. Here's a sample, which has a vocoded and non-vocoded reading together for clarity. It was done for an art installation:

Sorry I was a bit fast there again, ReaVoice is depending on the input pitch as darjama wrote. So no worky with ReaVoice. :( Edit: For the records, go Start->Run, type 'Narrator' and click 'Voice Settings', you should find a line where you can type in random stuff for testing. Something in Control Panel gets you directly to this dialogue without actually turning the Narrator on. It's a simple TTS program build into Windows since Win2k.
