Using webcam & display for Vocal Booth?

Posted this in tips & techniques but thought I'd repost it here... Anyone doing this & got suggestions of hardware & software? My vocal booth is out of eyeshot from the studio, but I'd like to be able to see & cue a singer & vice-versa. Was thinking about iSights, or evocam. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks! Joel

I got a samsung security vid system at Sam's Club for like 4 or 5 hundred. 4 Cameras and a diplay. Then I take the output from the display and split it and run coax to little tv's around the studio. Works well. -Pete

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree & was concerned about weighing down the computer with video software & about potential for delay. I would have wired the iSight with a long firewire cable. I was also thinking about wireless network cameras... Anyway, I'll try to find a ready-made flatscreen based security system. The ones I saw had chunky monitors which would crowd up my little booth. Thanks again, Joel

Joel Im gonna talk to you regarding my specific situation Ive been using I sight in my studio with no problems wathsoever of course the computer its not on the vocal booth, I used an extender for the monitor ( and also the mouse and keyboard ill explain in a second what for] it works awsome Price? 300 dollars for both isight cameras ( of course each computer needs one), and you dont need and internet conection as long as you hace a small network you can use Ichat in bonjour mode to use video from one computer to another the reason i have a mouse and a keyboardin the vocal booth, is simple sometimes i have to record myself, even singing a demo, playing guitar or whatever, so I use apple remote desktop to control protools from the computer of the vocal boot , and it works really good other reasons? lets say i have a singer on the booth, and for whatever reason i have some adjusting to do to some track rather than him or her being bore in the studio o even worse, asking to many questions, he can browse the internet while I do what i have to do also to display lyrics, change of lyrics, charts with cords, or showing him which is the place where something its happening in the session ( asuming you have remote desktop open in his computer and he can see the edit window} anyway in my particular expirience it worked flawless, and it was to a minimun expense ( just remember i already had a second computer, thats why the expense was minimun) I hope that helps and good luck

DHG - I like the sound of that!! It's kind of what I had in mind, only i hadn't gone as far... that's very cool to let them surf, see lyrics. Very cool. Does having ichat open on your music computer weigh down the CPU at all? Does Apple Remote slow things down? The other approach I was thinking about, was just having a wireless webcam, many have built in servers & fixed IP's. I would just need to have a browser open, anywhere inside or outside the studio, to see things. I don'tknow what the delay would be like though. I think I'm going the isight routs 'cos I love 'em. There's also a cool lcd screen I've seen with a built in camera, kind of like the new imacs or macbook pros. That would be 2 birds with one stone. Thanks! Joel
