Too many MIDI takes?

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here but can anyone tell me why I sometimes get two, sometimes three takes when recording MIDI items in real time from my keyboard. Only one take contains any MIDI notes, and I can just delete the others, but why does it happen?

RE: Too many MIDI takes?

To be frank, the only time I got this was when I accidentally had 2 or 3 midi tracks activated (say edirol Ua25 midi channel 1 on the track I of course got midi notes, channel 2 on next track, that stayed empty;-). If you'd do this or would record-activate other tracks (input might be anything in that case, your audio in or whatever, of course Reaper would think you'd record multiple tracks in one go. As in track 2 or 3 you did not actually record anything, an empty file would be shown. Not sure if this is of much help, but I couldn't find another way to replicate this. Reaper is not in the habit of doing this :). Cheers!

RE: Too many MIDI takes?

Thanks for the response Klemperer. Just tried it again. I created a new track, inserted MIDI item, record armed the track, set a time selection for the legth of the item, set auto punch for time selection, played some notes, stopped the transport, saved the recording, and guess what, two takes! No other tracks or items were selected, no other tracks were armed????

RE: Too many MIDI takes?

Hi Celfyn, try to open the take where there are no notes in the MIDI-Editor and select from the menu "View -> Mode: event list". Are there any events (maybe some controllors, SysEx or whatever)? Another idea: Try what you did before but without inserting a MIDI-item prior to recording. -Data

Mr Data "Are there any events (maybe some controllors, SysEx or whatever)?" The only event is an 'All notes off' right at the end of the item. "Try what you did before but without inserting a MIDI-item prior to recording" That worked, didn't realise that you don't have to insert MIDI item first. Thanks for your help!! Celfyn
