How fast is your CPU? Here are the rules 1) Hardware settings H/W Buffer = 1024 2) DAE Buffer = 4 3) Delay Compensation = Off (For TDM systems) 4) Playback engine (TDM set to Max Voices) 5) No Audio in your sessions ( as we are not testing hard drives here) PLus there are too many variables. 6) 44.1 Sessions 7) List your OS version and how much RAM and Protools Version too. 8) you must be able to playback 60 seconds with NO -9073 errors. 9) Do 2 Tests One at Max 99% (or 80% for single CPU's) and one at 40% ( the smallest CPU setting ) 10) RTAS EQ 4 Band Plug-ins only as that Plug-in everyone has 11) MAKE SURE You have 5 - 4Band Eq's per track as the more tracks the more CPU Power is needed 12) I did not want to do a Dverb Test as ASIK it is not optimized for a Intel chip Let the fun begin!
A raw power test i like that... G5 Dual 1.8 GHZ / 1.5GB RAM / HD2 Accel / OSX 10.3.7 / PT6.7cs6 99% = 73 tracks = (361 EQ4's) 40% = 35 tracks = (170 EQ4's) i also did a raw test power for LE / HD equivalent i used D-verb (another plugin everyone should have) when i maxed out the RTAS i converted all plugs to TDM to see what the HD equivalent would be. I know this is a rough estimation due to the fact that the stereo mixer is done on the HD card but it just gives you an idea. Remember its just a raw power test not a real situation test. 99% = 6 tracks = (29 D-verbs) HD equivilant HD Accell card 1 chip unused

HD-1 ON MAC QUICKSILVER 733 1.5 GIG RAM tried with mac 0S's X.3.4 and X.3.8 with Ptools 6.4 and 6.7 respective, no diff other than mouse was more dodgy with 10.3.8 and ptools 6.7(cs8) 80% = 27 Tracks = 114 EQ 4 Plugins (RTAS) 40% = 13 Tracks = 55 EQ 4 Plugins daniel
I see a typo on your specs roberts...it says 2 mb ram..I'm sure you meant 2 gb...anyway, I ran the benchmark and here are my results.. G4 MDD 1.25 dual 1.75 gb ram os 10.37 pt 6.7 (no cs) accel 3 48 tracks + 4 extra eq = 244 total eq4s at 99% 19 tracks + 2 extra eq = 97 total eq4s at 40% 17 tracks + 4 extra eq = 89 total eq4s in 1 tdm accel chip I also noticed that dutchmuzik's dual 2.5 g5 at 99% is not at least over double the amount of plug ins he has when he's running at 40%, while everybody else's is. it could be that he's running 10.38, but another post on a g4 said there was no difference....dunno what it could be...a typo...altivec...jaguar...anyway I wanted to analyze the results and give a heads up. btw... I was able to get 16 dverbs on rtas... 512 buffer...44.1 k...audiosuite buffer 2...one dsp..on a previous test.... one other thing...16 or 24 bit wasn't specified..which does have an impact on processing....I used 16 bits in all my tests anyway, I like the test...it's another way to look at the performance of your system (other than the davec (look it up)...and dverb tests)
