does anyone have experience or feedback on pioneer dvd burners. It's the OEM version of [i think] the 04, or whatever the model number is. MY drives are getting full and i need to back up stuff anyway. I was thinking on getting a USB external to dump stuff too, but i found this OEM DVD-R burner for $175 on pricewatch.com. Any thoughts? thanks.

RE: experience with dvd burners

Hey Jeremy, I have had, or currently have, the A03s, A04s and A05s. I love them to death but I would get the A05 (105 OEM) for the extra speed. BUT, I am considering checking out the new Sony drive that can burn/play all the current formats. It's a bit pricey and hard to find in stock from what I have heard though. You won't be unhappy with the Pioneers if you go that route. Take care. Eric

Eric, FYI, Pioneer recently announced the DVR-A06. It adds support for DVD+R/RW: Mark

RE: experience with dvd burners

I've pumped out about 80 DVD's on my Pioneer 105, nothing but good things to say about it. I've got mine in a Firewire case, so I'll do drums at a studio, bring in the 105, burn them all to one DVD-r, bring them home, transfer to my PC, and like that they're transfered and backed up in a nice compact format at a cost of $1.75. I would also encourage you to get a 4x burner, even though 4x media isn't cost-effective yet. It will be in a matter of months, and 2x DVD-RW drives will drop another 30% in value, and 4x burners will hold their value for another 6 months, or possibly even rise like DVD-ROMs did at one point. Whatever you do, don't wait until September! Anyone found any 2x media that burns reliably at 4x yet? I've heard of several 1x brands that burn at 2x, but not much savings really.
