Hi Folks, My question today is; I have ordered a new heater matrix for my car as I have recently noticed my windows have been steaming up especially the drivers half of the windscreen. Also a radiator fluid smell would sometimes linger inside the car and yes I smoke in the car always with the window open but the crap on the inside of windscreen is a pain no matter how many times I use the autoglm stuff 2 days later its looks as if it hasn't been cleaned in months rather than days. I have been advised that it is the matrix. I checked under the mats for any damp places but didn't find any. I have ordered a heater matrix from Nordic almost half price comapred to Volvo. Without looking at Haynes (As I am too mean)is this a job that 2 people could do with one of us being quite good with cars as I am certainly not! Does the dash have to come out as I have been told it doesn't but others state it does. I have checked the site for heater matrix posts without a result and are there any do's and don't to replacing this? Paul
This is a fairly easy job. If you go to you will see details and pics for a LHD, but essentialy the same. I think you have to get some clips and washers as the old ones will be brittle and probably snap on removal.

You'll be ok ! I did it upside down in the rain :) I'd recommend draining the coolant system as this will stop a majority of the flood inside the car if you can't clamp the coolant hoses. Also, ask the missus for a few large old towels to soak up the coolant in the footwell (there will be some :) ) HTH Chris
I did mine a few weeks back, it was pretty easy, I was rather surprised, the dash doesn't have to be removed, you do have to remove the shelf below the glove box and the trim from under the steering wheel, pull back the side carpets, remove the 2 plastic plates undo the bolts slide it out, ect, ect. (bit more to it that that but the Haynes tells all you need to know) the manual would be handy if you have one as there are one or 2 screws that you wouldn't know to take out if it wasn't for the book. it is a bit fiddly, but it is a one handed job, another pair of hands in there and you would chop em off. I am not the most clued up when it comes to these things (as you can probably tell) so if i managed it then you stand a good chance.
