help with latency anybody

hey everyone. I have a digi002, imac g5 with 768mb of memory, 1.6 ghz. I have the buffer size all the way up at like 1024 i beleive it is. I am recording dry but when i go to add plugins post recording the audio after i use drums from hell plugins for each drum and some reverb and compression for each of the guitar tracks and bass it just bogs it down to nothing then the buffer error pops up. Even worse i finally found a plugin that i record all the guitars with (the sansamp psa-1 plugin) If i start up a new session set at only 44.1 khz and open only one track with the sansamp psa-1 and a gate i can only record for about a minute before it gives me the buffer size error saying memory is to low. For some reason everyone on different forums tells me it shouldnt give me that problem and that these imac g5s are good with latency and protools plugins and ijust dont know what to do. Any help would be great.

RE: help with latency anybody

So what does this have to do with latency? Looks to me like you simply need more RAM, and stop using individual reverbs on your guitar tracks. If you aren't recording to an external drive that could be part of the problem too. Latency is simply the time it takes for the converters, and app to process the audio. Increasing the buffer size increases latency. That's why you should track without plugs with a low buffer setting then up the buffer when you start adding plugs for mixing. That Sans plug must be a real system hog. Try losing the gate when tracking with that thing. You can try adding it later or strip-silence/consolidate the tracks to save system resources.

I must agree with M Brane. You need more RAM. I had the same problem and it was driving me mad. 2G's of RAM should sort it.

This is from Digidesign.com on compatibilty Total System RAM 768MB minimum required for Pro Tools LE 7.3 - More Recommended More RAM increases overall system and Pro Tools perform If your running big samples like DFH you definently need more ram... I'm surprised you can even open DFH i feel like alot of those soundsets are larger than 768mb....
