Hey Folks... Pretty experienced user having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to rectify this... Using the PTLE Bet 32 version on OS 9. Did a session that I later moved to another drive for vocal comps... Then moved back to my main drive....Removed and deleted all unused files,... and slimmed down the session to only consolidated tracks and regions that only have the information necessary to the session.... but now everytime I start the session it asks for files that are no longer in playlists or anywhere in the session... I even tried to "rebuild" the session by exporting the files from the region bin to a different folder with a "saved as" and also a "copy too" session versions... and still can't rectify the problem... it's driving me nuts... and I need a solution ASAP please...
RE: Free Case of Beer to Whomever can solve this...
Did you try this: Select all tracks and go to the COMPS and REMOVE ALL COMPS in playlist (unless you are trying to keep the comps?) Select the file locators on the right edit window and do a SELECT ALL UNUSED REGIONS and then CLEAR Then do a save session copy in - SELECT KEEP TRACKS (cannot remember the full name but it is a selection for one of the check boxes.) Then save that session to a completly NEW FOLDER location. NOTE: I usually consolidate all the regions into the same lengths too to make sure that they will line up properly. Works well for transporting to other apps too. Check my HELP file on my site too (TOP RIGHT WHEN YOU GET IN THE SITE) It has pictures of what I described. That usually works for me, but I am not a MAC guy and work PC only. Should be the same though! - KILLIAN'S please! - Doc

Yes IntelDoc... pretty much have described what you've just implied... a couple of times now... with different drive/folder locations.... and yet, with every session startup, it's still looking for "ghost regions" that aren't there any more... (almost as if the pro tools session file is holding on to "old" information when it is saved as something new...) bizarre.... although I'd gladly had sent you some Killians if your response could rectify my quandry... anyone else...
RE: Free Case of Beer to Whomever can solve this...
when you cleared all of the unused audio files the first time (by hitting Cmd+Shft+B)you needed to hold down the "Opt" key when clicking on the delete button. I've had this happen to me before when I chose to clear audio from the region bin, I chose Delete from hard drive instead of chosing remove from session. After deleting I shut down and the next day when I started up it kept asking me where those files where... Someone told me I needed to hold down the Opt key when clicking delete. So I tried it on another session (holding opt) and it worked. But I never figured out how to make the first session stop looking for the files once I had removed them from the region bin. Also, make sure you didn't just hit the remove from session button and then deleted them yourself. That would basically cause the same problem. Very weird, I haven't noticed it happening in Ver. 6 though...maybe it's time for you to upgrade.

thanks for the tip... didn't know about the option command while hitting delete... now I just gotta find out how the heck I can get the session to stop looking for the files.... anyone else??? beer's waiting.
RE: Free Case of Beer to Whomever can solve this...
Make sure you have the option in the Display menu Display Auto-created Region checked. After enabling it you'll have to delete unused again (if it wasn't enabled). Delete all unused playlists. In the Region List menu -- select the option Select->Offline Regions, then Command+Shift+B and remove them from the session. Lastly, there's a bug in older versions of Pro Tools which only creates fade files for active playlists... so if you did all the above and load a session and continue to get the same message.. flip through all playlists so Pro Tools rebuilds all the fade files. Try hitting the "skip all" button as the session opens. Then go to Setups>Disk Allocation" and make sure the TRACKS are in the folder you want them to be. Close the session and re-open it. If this doesn't work, take a deep breath and let the computer INDEX itself: Open Sherlock>File>Index Volumes>Index all volumes. Let it do its work for a couple of hours. Watch the movie, "Laurel Canyon". Then try the first step again. If it doesn't work, let the computer find the files when it opens up the session. Make sure to select WAV or AIFF in the pulldown (whatever you recorded the tracks with) and check Match ID and all volumes buttons. Time consuming but it works for me. Then once the Audio Files are found and back in the session and the session is open, do Disk Allocation again. BTW, hitting the Opt+click Delete just allows you to erase all the files at once rather than one at a time. Best wishes, Dan
