Yup, I've heard this too. I've also noticed that some the of syndicated re-runs tend to run completely phasing for the WHOLE episode. (episodes of MASH and Married w/Children have been run like this. Very strange.)

I've heard the same thing - especially on the Daily Show... always wondered why it would happen. The phasing is always during audience reaction in the bumpers (or maybe most noticable during audience reaction).

Quite likely this is caused by the FOH raising the mic level for 'crowd noise' while the main stage mic is still open - you get the crowd in the main mic and in the 'crowd' mic, which causes the phasing.

Don't think it is a "crowd mic" thing. I hear it during the opening of the Daily Show where there is no crowd yet and only graphics on screen. I also hear the same exact thing during the opening of South Park, almost at the same place, maybe 3 seconds in to both shows. Any ideas?

This phasing at the outro's and intro's has two functions. 1) It creates a measurable feedback floppy-loop whip-back conundrum field which tells the networks who is watching and where they live. 2) It sets a marker point in the viewer's concience which can later be used for mind-control. I would explain in more detail how that all works, but they'd put a tracer out on me faster than Digi can make hardware obsolete. I can't let them take me back there again.
