How do you change a track's color without changing the color of track's items?

Someone please tell me this is possible. I see actions to change item's color independent of track's color but not vice versa. I would like to change a track's color but leave the items intact. How can I accomplish this? Thanks.

Have a look at the tinting preferences, in Preferences >> Appearance >> Media -- untick the two "Track colour" boxes. Also, you can tint the items themselves - select them, right-click >> Item and take colours >> ...
