i am attempting to slave PTF to smpte translated to mtc by a MOTU midi express. timeline lags futher and further behind timecode as displayed in the session window. i am sure my hardware ( G4, 388 mB RAM ) etc is up to it and PTF will run in sync with the MOTU box switched to internal. any ideas gratefully received !!! thanx

RE: Protools lagging behind smpte ?

thanks for your message - no i'm in the uk and working at 25fps on all devices. minimal extension set, 512 cache, no RAM disk or virtual memory, 60MB allocated to ptf etc - i normally work with video so machine settings are fine. am attempting to sync with a film editor so smpte striped on mag - tried with 3 different sources on 2 different mag recorders at 2 different speeds and can tweak tweak the speed of the smpte source to lock to motu - but still no joy ! desperate !

What is driving the PT session? Do your rates match? Non-Drop or Drop frame? 30 or 29.97 (should be 29.97 if you're doing video ref. work). Sounds like a TC format issue if it's going out of sync that fast. -Evan

RE: Protools lagging behind smpte ?

This is happening because neither Pro Tools LE nor Pro Tools Free completely resolves to MTC without the assistance of S/PDIF-based SMPTE (available only on the Digi 001 I believe). Although a song can be triggered to start at a particular time, after that Pro Tools will ignor the incoming MTC stream until it is stopped and restarted again. Bummer. Andre
