RCA S/PDIF input on 001 won\'t work!

Do I have bad 001 hardware? I can't get any digital signal into a recording track using the RCA S/PDIF input. Optical works OK. This is OS 9.2.2 A few things may be suspicious: (1)in hardware set up, other options menu, "Optical Format" options are greyed out and unselectable. (2)RCA option does not show up as a choice when trying to reset the playback engine. Only ADAT and Optical are shown. (3) I/O setup is in default mode, S/PDIF input is labeled "S/PDIF L-R (opt), however S/PDIF output is labeled "S/PDIF L-R (opt/RCA). (4) There just doesn't seem to be any indication that the 001 RCA digital input is being seen or recognized in any way by the software. I've already tried the following: 1. checked sample rates for compatibility. 2. tried to reset playback engine. 3. explored all possibilities with I/O setups 4. tried various digital sources as inputs. 5. explored all options under hardware setup. ANY IDEAS? IS ANY OF THE ABOVE NORMAL? THANKS!

Sounds like your optical port is set to SPDIF. I think it's under Setup->Hardware.

Thanks Lurker at the threshold! You are correct! Shame on me for not knowing my software, but until you need the feature....

OK, I have the same problem, but when I go to Setup => Hardware, I don't see how to change it. There is nothing about it in the dialog box that comes up, and in "Other Options", there is a box marked "Optical Format" with a grayed out (non functioning) menu bar that says "S/PDIF".
